Default Living with pain

We humans are instinctually wired to avoid pain. When, however, the pain is unavoidable, you are faced with a significant dilemma. This is where you need to scrutinize your intentions. If you are determined to get out and participate more in social gatherings, then you need to be realistic about whether your inertia is a result of avoidance or pain management (both of which may be true). This of course is a matter of relativity. If the pain is significant enough, you body is only trying to protect itself from further damage, in which case, it makes sense not to push too hard or to suffer needlessly. Perhaps you can use a wheelchair to assist you.

Essentially, your problem isn't a neurotic one, it's a real life challenge and you need to try your best to not allow yourself the become short-sighted and depressed by your current circumstances. Choose to see the life that awaits you after the hip surgery.

I do wish you well,
Dr. Joe
